Ride the Puddles

The Lies and Unfairness of Bloggers

Posted by bikezilla on July 15, 2010

This morning Chiara Passerini, aka Cadel Evans’ wife, complained about the “rubbish” found on blogs.

She’s not the first celeb in the world of professional cycling to make such a complaint, Johan Bruyneel, Johnathan Vaughters, Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, Mark Cavendish, Mark Renshaw, Robbie McEwen and I’m sure others have made similar remarks from time to time.

I understand that they feel like if they comment or email, especially if they say anything on their own sites, blogs or Twitter pages, that they give undue attention, maybe thousands of hits, to people they think are lower than amoebas on the evolutionary ladder.

But here’s something that they miss: Most blogs allow anonymous commenting.

They can have their say without ever offering up “undue attention”, without ever giving the benefit of having their names and status associated with the lowly bloggers / blogs.

If they fail to take advantage of this, then they have only themselves to blame for the perceived lack of fairness, truthfulness and accuracy of these bloggers.

Now, they may say, “they aren’t even worth that”, but they then need to explain two things.

1. Why are you obsessed with reading them, then?

2. If they’re so lowly and worthless, why do their opinions bother you in the least?

Things that are truly stupid and worthless don’t get that kind of reaction. At best they earn a shrug or a chuckle and after that they are ignored.

If YOU, celeb whiners, are paying attention and are affected, then you can bet that others are, probably quite a few others.

So you can keep on pouting and crying from a distance, or you can step up, even anonymously, and offer to balance or correct the perceptions of these lying, stupid, horrible, ignorant, malicious, unfair bloggers.

If you can’t do that, then shut yer yaps.

You don’t have the guts to complain on site, but you’ll waste time and energy pissing and moaning in places and at times when your words and your efforts do you absolutely no good whatsoever. THAT is rubbish.
